HR Manager - Generalist

 

The HR Manager - Generalist position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units they support. The position serves as a consultant to all levels of management and staff on human resource-related issues and reports into the Corporate Director of Human Resources.

The successful HR Manager - Generalist will coach managers and supervisors at all levels providing timely and constructive feedback to help them improve their leadership effectiveness, will coach managers and acts as an employee champion and business change agent for the respective business units they support.  The role assesses and anticipates organizational needs and leads local efforts to ensure effective definition, deployment, and training around all business-specific and HR practices, which incorporate clear accountability for HR, Leadership Team members, People Managers, and other Support employees.

The HR Manager - Generalist seeks to develop integrated solutions, communicating needs proactively to core business units and collaborates with Corporate HR.  The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The HR Manager - Generalist maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit's financial position, its mid-range plans, its culture, and its competition.

Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs.
  • With management, participates in strategic direction for business units in relation to human resource and business functions. 
  • Consults with all levels of line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Works with the Talent Acquisition team and hiring managers to effectively and efficiently identify and fill vacancies with high caliber employees at competitive wages.
  • Counsels managers on effective documentation practices for all levels of performance, ensuring consistency in criteria for performance.
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Ensures site compliance with company and government requirements.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Participates in evaluation, identification, and monitoring of training needs and programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Psychology, or a related field required.
  • 5+ years of HR Generalist experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of 2+ years’ experience handling and resolving a wide range of employee relations issues.
  • Previous and proven management/leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in conflict resolution and/or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential
  • Strong knowledge of compensation, HR processes, labor law and trends preferred.
